Jan, Jayne and Beer
Time to pack up the camping gear and leave Zion for Salt Lake City. There, we are to pick up our Travel mates Jan & Rich from the sailing vessel Slipaway, who will be joining us for the rest of the National Parks road trip.
Next stop The Grand Tetons National Park. Jan’s friend, Jayne, happens to live in Jackson, Wyoming, so we decide to impose and use her place as base camp for our visit to the park. Jayne took us to one of the local micro breweries for dinner and a few beers. THANKS Jayne!

Jenny Lake
Let the hiking begin! We decide to hike Jenny Lake Trail. At least we started at the Jenny Lake trailhead, but veered off and climbed and climbed. Whew! This hiking stuff is tough.

Pat stopping, AGAIN, for another photo op!

Hiking up, up, up. Wow!
Spectacular view after spectacular view. These picture opportunities provided us with time to catch our breath.

Another View

And another vantage point

And a final shot of this amazing mountain before taking a much needed break.

Ahhh… a break finally… “Hey look! There’s a lake behind you. Smile! (Carrie, Jan, and the old guy is Rich)

Enough mountains. Check out this amazing view of Jenny Lake.

There’s the moon over the mountain.

Our final destination before heading back down the mountain.

Heading back to Jayne’s after our incredible hike, we run into this herd of ElK, grazing and generally relaxing.

“Hey, a moose. Stop! Stop the car!” Scream Carrie and Jan. “Hey girls, maybe you shouldn’t be between him and his harem.” Oops!

Well, it’s time to move on, but that’s not the end of the photo opportunities. The drive to Yellowstone begins. Here Rich captures our adventurers Pat & Carrie with the Grand Tetons as the back drop.

Leaving the Grand Tetons on the way to Yellowstone.

We’ll never get to Yellowstone at this rate.

Still in the Tetons, slowly moving towards Yellowstone.

I think we actually made it 3 miles before another photo op appeared.

We just get out of the park when we see a sign: beautiful vistas, turn here. OK. Looking back at the Tetons.

Another shot from the ‘beautiful vista point’. Hmmm… that’s an interesting formation.

Well, it’s time for lunch. This looks like a nice spot! Life is ‘Grand’ :>)

A close up from our lunch site.

Still eating lunch, so time for an even closer view.

OK, just one more shot. Now it’s time to jump back into the Subaru and head to Yellowstone.
