Parade in Salta

The nuns of Tarija kicked our butts so it was time to leave Bolivia. We headed south to Salta, Argentina. At the bus station we were met by a very nice English-speaking woman who was touting her hostel. We looked at the pictures in her binder and found she was asking the same rate for a room with private bath as our reservation for a dorm room with shared bath at another hostel. We blew off our reservation at the other hostel and checked in to the Hostal Andaluz.

One of Salta’s main attractions is the tram ride up to the top of the nearest hill. The original plan was to walk up the hill for a bit of exercise, but Carrie started to develop a cold so we jumped into a tram car and had it do the heavy lifting.

Our tram car passed right over the top of a parade with many horses. Looks like the horses did quite a bit of decorating on the street, if you know what I mean.

The top of the hill was a popular spot with local families and tourists alike.

This man-made waterfall meandered through many levels of the park at the top of the hill.

Here is one way to wash your hands: Just find the nearest waterfall, climb up behind it and stick your hands through the falling water.

Carrie's cold developed into bronchitis with a side of laryngitis. After a few days of phlegm-filled hacking, fever-fueled dreams and the inability to speak, Pat called for a doctor. The doc came right to the hostal for the exam, said a few things in medical Spanish and shot Carrie in the butt with a couple of drugs. The cool part, if there could be one, was that the consultation with the doc was covered in our room charge. Thanks Hostal Andaluz!

While Carrie was out of commission, Pat took in the sights of Salta. There was a great big park right near the hostal with a popular little lake.

The ducks were so engrossed with the man feeding them that they didn't seem to notice the dog. I'm guessing that his intentions were not all good.

These people were enjoying some of the street food served in the park. Pat made a pilgrimage to his favorite chorizo-on-the-grill cart for a chorizo sandwich every day while Carrie was being no fun sleeping the days away.

Pat had time to sit on the park benches and watch Salta life pass by ... and maybe work up an appetite for another chorizo sandwich.

Hey, look who's alive! Pat was happy since he had run out of things to do in Salta. He figured if Carrie was good enough to play pool, she was good enough to sit on a bus to Mendoza. Vamanos!
